Statement from the Director

On the deployment of Fire and Rain International team members to the Southeast Asia border crisis

Andrew Scarborough · Director · 11th of December 2025

As a fragile ceasefire collapses along a disputed border in Southeast Asia, I want to share with you what is happening and how our organisation is responding.

Airstrikes were launched this week following renewed military clashes. Civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate from border areas. Families are fleeing with little more than they can carry.

This isn't a distant crisis for our organisation. Some of our team — this is their land. They have family there. They know the roads, the villages, the people. And they've made the decision to go — not away from danger, but toward those who need help most.

"While families flee, our people are heading toward the crisis. When we say our team is on the ground, we mean right now. Today. At the border."

Andrew Scarborough · Director

Our team members are providing emergency humanitarian assistance — food, water, shelter, and support for families who have lost everything in a matter of hours.

The situation remains fluid. We are monitoring developments closely and will continue to share updates as we are able.

The Crisis

The dispute along this border dates back more than a century. Conflict has erupted repeatedly over the years, with the most recent escalation beginning earlier this year.

A ceasefire was agreed after international intervention, but that arrangement has now collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been ordered to evacuate from border areas.

Many are sheltering with family or in temporary evacuation centres. The humanitarian need is significant and ongoing.
